Deep ruby red with violet reflections. Aromas of black pepper, pencil shavings and a fresh meatiness, complemented by notes of black fruits, spices and a subtle herbal spiciness. Structured but fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and a harmonious interplay of fruit and spice. The finish is long-lasting with a hearty and red-fruity finish. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to dishes such as lamb meatballs in tomato sauce, turkey with cranberry sauce or baked camembert with rosemary.
Since 1981, the winery Eikendal Vineyards, located a few kilometers outside Stellenbosch, is owned by the Swiss family Saager. The climatic conditions with the nearby Atlantic Ocean and the terroir are first class. Sufficient organic matter and minerals in the soils at the foot of the Helderberg allow the vines to thrive and produce full-bodied, powerful but also multi-faceted and supple wines. The wines are vinified with great care for the grapes and separate vinification of the individual plots. Between 250,000 and 300,000 bottles of wine leave the 76-hectare winery every year.
