from Legio Julius by Vins et Vignobles Julius SA, Salgesch is a distinctive blend of Diolinoir and Zweigelt, expressing both the innovation and heritage that define the Valais region. Inspired by the Roman legion that once stood in the valley, this wine embodies courage, vision, and a taste for the extraordinary.

The grapes are sourced from carefully selected vineyards, where the unique alpine climate and mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions for slow, balanced ripening. Each variety is vinified separately before being artfully blended to achieve perfect harmony. The wine is aged in stainless-steel tanks with a touch of oak, enhancing depth and texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.

In the glass, Gaius reveals a deep cherry-red color with ruby highlights. The nose is generous and refined, with aromas of black fruits, ripe cherries, and delicate spices. On the palate, it is round, juicy, and well-balanced, featuring soft tannins and a smooth, lingering finish.

Versatile and inviting, this cuvée pairs beautifully with meat dishes, pizza, pasta, or simply enjoyed on its own. Gaius represents the modern spirit of Valais winemaking – elegant yet approachable, rich yet fresh.

Innovation - tradition - vision - Legio Vallis combines all these elements. Inspired by the Romans, who thought far beyond their borders and were stationed in Valais with the Legion XII Fulminata (Legio Vallis), Vins et Vignobles Julius has planted unconventional grape varieties for Valais. The winery's vision is to use these varieties in combination with other grape varieties to create innovative wines. Traditional and modern vinification methods are combined. The courage to create something out of the ordinary was rewarded with the first wine, Fulminata. A powerful yet elegant Appassimento inspired by the famous Amarone. With the Merlot-Primitivo, Chasselas-Heida-Arneis and Pinot Noir-Lagrein, wonderful and drinkable everyday wines with an international character were created. Wines for every occasion!
