Azienda Agricola Il Palazzo, Arezzo

Azienda Agricola Il Palazzo is located in the province of Arezzo in the eastern part of Tuscany. The estate is shaped by a classic Tuscan landscape: gentle hills, vineyards, olive groves and historic structures closely connected to the region’s agricultural culture. Il Palazzo stands for a calm, artisanal interpretation of Tuscan wines – with Sangiovese at its centre and a clear focus on origin, structure and balance.

The history of the estate dates back to 1946. Today, Il Palazzo combines traditional vineyard work with modern cellar technology and a carefully developed range. Alongside Chianti DOCG and Chianti Riserva DOCG, it also produces Toscana IGT wines that combine classic Tuscan grape varieties with internationally influenced varieties. The range is complemented by a fresh Vermentino, which shows the Mediterranean white wine side of Tuscany.

Arezzo: Tuscany beyond the famous centres

The province of Arezzo lies somewhat apart from Tuscany’s most famous wine towns, and it is precisely this that gives it an independent profile. The region forms a transition between the classic Chianti landscapes, the Val di Chiana and the eastern foothills of Tuscany. Hillside sites, warm days and cooler nights create good conditions for wines with ripe fruit, lively structure and a clear regional character. Il Palazzo uses these conditions for wines that do not rely on heavy opulence, but on balance. The red wines show fruit, tannin and ageing, while remaining stylistically composed and accessible. The Vermentino complements this line with freshness, Mediterranean aromatics and a brighter, lighter side of the estate.

Sangiovese as the Tuscan foundation

Sangiovese is the defining grape variety of Tuscany and also forms an important centrepiece at Il Palazzo. In the Chianti DOCG, it appears classic, fruit-driven and structured, with red fruits, floral notes and the typical tension of this grape variety. The Chianti Riserva DOCG stands for a riper, more deeply aged interpretation with greater structure, spice and additional depth from maturation in oak barrels. Sangiovese also plays a central role in the Toscana IGT wines. Depending on the cuvée, it is combined with grape varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Petit Verdot. This results in wines that retain their Tuscan foundation while also showing a modern, more powerful and more strongly structured style.

Toscana IGT: modern red wines with depth

The Toscana IGT wines from Il Palazzo extend the classic Chianti line with distinctive red wines of longer maturation and greater concentration. Moro Rosso Toscana IGT combines Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah in a cuvée with dark fruit, spice and supple structure. Sal Terrae Toscana IGT brings together Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and shows a powerful, internationally influenced side of the estate.

Cum Sanguis Toscana IGT, by contrast, remains entirely focused on Sangiovese, but is vinified with longer maturation and particular structure. At the estate, it is affectionately called “Brunellino” because its style and texture recall the great Sangiovese wines of Tuscany. In this way, Il Palazzo shows the breadth of the grape variety: from classic Chianti to the expressive Toscana IGT selection.

Vermentino and the white side of Tuscany

In addition to its red wines, Il Palazzo also offers a Vermentino Toscana IGT. This grape variety fits well with the Mediterranean side of Tuscany and brings freshness, citrus notes, herbal hints and mineral nuances to the range. Ageing in stainless steel preserves its clear aromatics and makes the wine a versatile companion for aperitifs, fish, starters and Mediterranean cuisine.
