Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP 150 cl

Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP stands for the powerful, concentrated style of Apulia – now presented in an impressive Magnum format. The wine is based on the Primitivo grape variety from vines at least 60 years old, which give it its distinctive density and expressive character. In the 150-cl bottle, the wine develops more slowly and evenly, further enhancing structure, harmony and ageing potential. Ageing in barriques highlights the ripe fruit and adds a subtle spicy dimension. Ideal for festive occasions, collectors or as an expressive wine for contemplation with a long, persistent finish.

Producer: Cantine San Marzano

In 1962, the strength and craftsmanship of 19 winegrowing families came together to found Cantine San Marzano. These wines originate from a unique region – Apulia, a strip of land between two seas, the Ionian and the Adriatic, with vineyards and landscapes in the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi, where vines and olive trees grow side by side on the characteristic red soils. The Mediterranean terroir plays a fundamental role in the production of these high-quality, modern wines. The climate is extreme and conditions are challenging. Through the passion of the winegrowers of Cantine San Marzano, the grapes are transformed into full-bodied and elegant wines. These wines are the best example that high quality and an attractive price do not contradict each other.

FAQ about Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP 150 cl

What makes Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP special?

Sessantanni stands for Primitivo from vines that are at least 60 years old. These old vines produce very low yields with high concentration and depth. Combined with the Manduria DOP origin, this results in a powerful, structured wine with pronounced character and ageing potential.

What does “Sessantanni” or old vines mean for the wine?

The name refers to the very old vines. Vines that are at least 60 years old produce fewer grapes, but these are particularly concentrated and aromatic. As a result, the wine gains density, complexity and structure. Old vines give Sessantanni its depth, balance and ability to develop positively over many years.

How is Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP aged?

The wine is traditionally vinified and aged for 12 months in barriques, giving it structure, spice and harmoniously integrated tannins without overshadowing its ripe fruit.

When does Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP 2020(150 cl) reach its best drinking maturity?

The 2020 vintage already shows very good accessibility with ripe fruit and a soft structure. In the Magnum bottle, the wine develops more slowly and evenly, gaining additional harmony, depth and spice with further bottle ageing.

What is the ideal serving temperature?

Serve at 15–18°C so that aromas and structure are well balanced.

What food pairs best with Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP?

With robust meat dishes, braised dishes, grilled foods, spicy Mediterranean cuisine as well as mature cheeses. Also an expressive pleasure on its own.
