Champagne Louis Roederer – Precision and origin from Reims since 1776

Champagne Louis Roederer is one of the few major independent Champagne houses in Reims and is still run by the founding family today. One particular feature is the high proportion of estate-owned vineyards: around 240 hectares in Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites form the basis for a clearly defined, terroir-driven style. The combination of its own grape supply, precise parcel work and controlled vinification enables exceptionally consistent quality across the entire range.

Origin and style: Champagne between chalk, climate and structure

The vineyards of Louis Roederer are spread across the central zones of Champagne: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. The chalky soils store water and warmth and ensure even ripening of the grapes. Combined with the cool climate, this creates the typical tension of Champagne: fine acidity, precise fruit and a mineral-driven structure. Roederer’s style is shaped less by opulence than by balance. Freshness, structure and a clear sense of line are at the forefront. Part of the wines is deliberately aged in wood to create additional depth and texture without masking the origin.

Vinification and the Collection concept

A central element of the style is the precise handling of the individual parcels. Grapes from over 400 individual sites are vinified separately and only brought together in the assemblage. With the Collection concept, Roederer replaces classic non-vintage Champagne with an ongoing edition based on a base year and complemented by reserve wines. This creates an independent yet stylistically consistent interpretation each year. The long ageing on the lees, combined with an additional resting period after disgorgement, gives the Champagnes depth, fine mousse and a calm, precise aromatic profile.
