Cantina del Ciabot

Piedmont wines from Farigliano

Cantina del Ciabot from Farigliano in Piedmont stands for a connection between regional wine tradition and modern style. The history of the winery dates back to 1896, when Giovanni, the founding father of the winery, acquired the first vineyard. Today, the fifth generation is already working at the family estate, which is located around 18 kilometres south of Barolo. The vineyards of Cantina del Ciabot extend from the Dogliani area to Roero. This location allows for a wide variety of traditional Piedmontese grape varieties such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis, complemented by international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet and Merlot. The result is a range that includes both classic Piedmont wines and modern cuvées.

Piedmont between tradition and new wine ideas

Piedmont is one of Italy’s important wine regions and is strongly shaped by single-varietal wines. Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis stand for a long regional identity closely linked to the hills of the Langhe, Roero and the neighbouring growing areas. Cantina del Ciabot works with these classic grape varieties, while also consciously opening itself to new interpretations. This approach is particularly evident in the estate’s so-called Super Piedmontese wines. Inspired by the idea of the Super Tuscans, Cantina del Ciabot combines local grape varieties and international classics into independent wines. The aim is not to replace tradition, but to expand it through modern vinification, longer ageing and new cuvée concepts.

White wines from Piedmont

In the white wine segment, Cantina del Ciabot shows two different sides of Piedmont.

The Alison Langhe Arneis DOC stands for the indigenous Arneis grape variety, which has a long tradition in Piedmont. The wine shows fine fruit, floral aromatics, fresh citrus notes and a balanced, mineral structure. It is particularly suitable as an aperitif as well as with antipasti, fish, poultry and fresh cheese.

The Boscodonne Bianco Italia shows the modern side of the winery. Vinified from Sauvignon Blanc and aged for seven months in stainless steel tanks, it combines elderflower, green tea, passion fruit and grapefruit with a fresh, crisp structure. This wine shows how Cantina del Ciabot places international grape varieties in a Piedmontese context.

Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolo

The classic red grape varieties of Piedmont form an important part of the range. The Visconte Barbera Piemonte DOC is vinified from 100% Barbera and aged for 20 months in small and large wooden barrels. It shows blackberries, elderflowers, a fruit-driven structure and a harmonious finish. Here, Barbera stands for approachability, freshness and Piedmontese everyday versatility, with added depth from oak ageing.

The Cantalupo Nebbiolo Langhe DOC offers an earlier-accessible expression of the Nebbiolo grape. After temperature-controlled fermentation, it matures for 15 months in small wooden barrels. Red and black fruits, roses, vanilla, wood, tobacco, leather and nuts shape its character. It combines the typical structure of Nebbiolo with a balanced, approachable style.

The Del Conte Barolo DOCG represents the more classic and age-worthy side of the estate. Vinified from 100% Nebbiolo, it matures for at least three years in oak barrels and then for six months in the bottle. Red berries, compote, leather and tobacco, a warm, concentrated palate and a long finish define this Barolo from Piedmont.

Independent cuvées from Piedmont

Alongside the classic wines, Cantina del Ciabot follows a modern cuvée approach.

The C by Ciabot Premier Signature Wine Rosso Italia combines Cabernet and Merlot into a full-bodied red wine with red fruits, spices, tobacco, plums, berries and a hint of sour cherry. Hand harvesting, fermentation in stainless steel tanks and twelve months of ageing in large wooden barrels give it structure and balance.

The Duca Del Poggio Rosso Italia combines Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo into a powerful Piedmontese cuvée. At least two years of ageing in oak barrels and subsequent bottle maturation give the wine depth and calm. Cherries, black fruits, cedarwood and vanilla combine with a full-bodied, smooth palate.

This selection shows the character of Cantina del Ciabot: Piedmontese origin, classic grape varieties and an open attitude towards new wine ideas. The wines range from fresh Sauvignon Blanc and Arneis to Barbera, Nebbiolo, Barolo and modern Rosso Italia cuvées with structure and depth.
