Cutaja Nero d'Avola Riserva Sicilia DOC
Cutaja Nero d’Avola Riserva
Sicilia DOC
from Caruso e Minini is a powerful and refined expression of Sicily’s signature red grape. Sourced from vineyards situated on limestone-rich hills to the east of Marsala, the wine reflects the depth and character that Nero d’Avola can achieve under ideal climatic and geological conditions. A maturation period of 18 months in French oak barrels adds structure and complexity while preserving the purity of the varietal.
In the glass, the wine reveals a dense ruby colour with violet highlights, indicating concentration and maturity. On the nose, it opens with intense aromas of ripe red fruits—blackcurrant, plum and subtle cherry notes. These are complemented by delicate hints of herbs, cocoa and a fine toasted character that stems from the lengthy barrel ageing. The bouquet remains harmonious, precise and expressive.
On the palate, the Cutaja Riserva is full-bodied and rich, yet remarkably balanced. The tannins are soft and polished, supporting the wine’s ample structure without overwhelming it. A well-integrated acidity provides freshness and clarity, allowing the fruit and spice notes to unfold with elegance. The finish is impressively long, warm and persistent, with lingering touches of fruit and savoury spice.
This Riserva embodies the philosophy of Caruso e Minini: a seamless combination of tradition, technical expertise and respect for the Sicilian terroir. Under the leadership of Giovanna and Rosanna Caruso, the estate continues to craft wines that bring together varietal typicity, balance and a modern sense of refinement.
Food pairing: Rich dishes such as baked pasta, roasted game, grilled beef steaks and more.
Caruso e Minini
A success story of two families that has lasted for generations. The winemaking expertise of Sicilian Stefano Caruso coupled with the commercial knowledge of Mario Minini from northern Italy were responsible for the initial foundation. Tradition, competence and vision for the future came together. Today Stefano's daughters Giovanna and Rosanna are involved. The winery covers about 120 hectares of vineyards in the Guyot system. The vines climb up to 450 meters above sea level on calcareous hillsides east of Marsala and are then processed in a building that is over a century old. Thanks to the altitude and the distance from the sea, the grapes ripen particularly well. The result is varietal, characterful and modern wines from Sicilian classics such as Zibibbo and Nero d'Avola, but also from international celebrities like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
