Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore DOC 37.5 cl
The Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore DOC by Azienda Vitivinicola Zenato is a characterful red wine from the Valpolicella, the classic red wine region in the Veneto. Made following the traditional Ripasso method – refermented on Amarone grape pomace – it combines fruit richness, depth and the structural power typical of Corvina-based wines from this region. With its deep, almost black colour and complex aromatic profile, it ranks among the most distinctive expressions of its style: approachable, yet with a clear identity.
Producer: Azienda Vitivinicola Zenato, S. Benedetto di Lugana
Azienda Vitivinicola Zenato is one of the most renowned wineries in northern Italy's Veneto. Sergio Zenato, founder of the current estate, was among the most important pioneers of the DOC Lugana and has significantly shaped wine culture around Lake Garda. Today, his children Alberto and Carla Zenato continue the estate with the same commitment to quality and terroir expression. Zenato wines come from estate vineyards in San Benedetto di Lugana as well as in the hills of the Valpolicella. The wines regularly earn outstanding scores from national and international bodies, including Gambero Rosso, James Suckling and Wine Spectator. The Amarone Riserva 2015 was awarded 98 points by James Suckling; the Lugana Riserva received the coveted Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso.

FAQ
What stylistically defines the Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore?
The Ripassa combines the fruitiness of a Valpolicella with the structure and depth of a wine refermented on Amarone pomace. The result is a densely structured, full-bodied red wine with a rich berry aroma profile and a long finish.
How is the Ripassa vinified?
Following primary fermentation, the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation on the pomace of Amarone – a technique known as Ripasso. It then matures for 18 months in French barriques and is bottle-aged for a further 6 months before release.
What role do the grape varieties play in this wine?
Corvina defines the aromatic character with ripe cherries and spice. Rondinella contributes freshness and structure, while Oseleta adds colour, tannin framework and depth. Together they produce a balanced, full-bodied wine with strong regional typicity.
At what temperature should the wine be served?
16 to 18°C is recommended. At this temperature the wine reveals its full aromatic potential and shows at its best.
When does the Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore 2021 reach its peak drinking window?
The wine is already approachable and shows fruit richness and freshness now. Its cellaring potential of 8 years still allows further development – those who cellar it for 3 to 5 years should experience increasing complexity and tannin integration.
What does the Ripassa pair best with?
Lamb dishes, hearty braises, grilled meats, Beef Stroganoff and robust Italian cuisine. Also an excellent match with aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino.
What makes the Valpolicella region special?
The Valpolicella is a hilly area west of Verona and is considered one of Italy's most significant red wine regions. Calcareous soils, a temperate climate and the autochthonous grape varieties Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta create the foundation for wines of great expressive power – from the lighter Valpolicella to the powerful Amarone.
What role does the barrique play in the Ripassa?
The use of French barriques for 18 months gives the wine structure, subtle toasty notes and depth without masking the varietal character. The oak integrates harmoniously and contributes to the wine's cellaring potential.
