Château de Pierreux – Wines from Brouilly and Beaujolais

Château de Pierreux is located in southern Beaujolais, opposite Mont Brouilly. The origins of the château date back to the 13th century. The estate comprises around 250 hectares of land and is surrounded by an extensive vineyard landscape. Château de Pierreux has been part of Jean-Claude Boisset since 2005. Since then, the historic estate has been carefully renovated and further developed. Château de Pierreux combines the classic Beaujolais tradition with a clear, modern style. Gamay is at the heart of the red wines, while Chardonnay is used for the white wines. Depending on their origin and ageing, the wines display fruit, floral notes, fine spice, silky tannins or a round, creamy texture.

Origin and Terroir

The château is located in Brouilly, one of the renowned Crus of Beaujolais. The vineyards around Mont Brouilly are characterised by a variety of soils and provide excellent conditions for Gamay. Here, the grape variety produces fruit-driven red wines with floral aromas, fine spice and an approachable structure. In addition to its Gamay reds, Château de Pierreux also produces white wines from Chardonnay. These reveal a different side of Beaujolais, with floral aromas, freshness, creaminess and fine structure. Partial ageing in oak barrels and maturation on the fine lees add notes of brioche, hazelnut and subtle caramel to the Chardonnay.

Viticulture and Ageing

The wines of Château de Pierreux are produced according to biodynamic principles. The focus is on meticulous work in the vineyard and an ageing approach designed to express the grape varieties and their origins with clarity.

For Réserve du Château de Pierreux Brouilly AOC, fermentation takes place under temperature-controlled conditions. The Gamay is then aged for 6 months in large wooden vats. This allows the fruit and floral aromas to remain at the forefront while giving the wine additional structure and harmony.

Château de Pierreux blanc Beaujolais-Villages AOC matures on the fine lees for 9 months and is partially aged in oak barrels. This ageing process enhances its round, creamy style and complements the Chardonnay's floral notes with hazelnut, brioche and subtle hints of caramel.

Wine Style of Château de Pierreux

The red wines of Château de Pierreux showcase the fruit-driven character of Gamay, with cherries, blueberries, floral notes, fine spices and silky tannins. Subtle minerality and an aromatic finish complete the style.

The Chardonnay white wines are rounder and creamier in style. White flowers, hazelnut, brioche and subtle caramel notes combine with a harmonious structure and a delicate finish. Château de Pierreux thus reveals two distinct yet clearly recognisable expressions of Beaujolais.
