J. Moreau & Fils, Chablis

J. Moreau & Fils is one of the historic houses of Chablis, founded in 1814. Located in the northernmost part of Burgundy, the estate represents a precise, terroir-driven interpretation of the Chablis style. Today, the house is part of the Boisset group and shaped by winemaker Lucie Depuydt.

Origin & Terroir

Chablis lies around 100 kilometres northwest of Dijon and is defined by a cool, continental climate. The growing season is relatively short, and spring frosts are a recurring challenge for viticulture. These conditions favour wines with clear structure, moderate ripeness and pronounced freshness.

The soils are predominantly composed of Kimmeridgian limestone – a fossil-rich marine formation with a high limestone content. This terroir gives the wines their characteristic minerality and plays a defining role in the regional style.

Style of the Wines

The wines of J. Moreau & Fils follow a classic profile: mineral, precise and focused on freshness. Vinification takes place mainly in stainless steel tanks to preserve the origin and the natural expression of Chardonnay. Selected wines see restrained oak ageing to add depth without dominating the style.

The range covers different quality levels of the appellation – from approachable Chablis to more complex Premier Cru wines. This diversity reflects the varied expressions of the region.

The selection at buonvino.gmbh includes representative wines from J. Moreau & Fils that reflect the classic style of Chablis:

Chablis 1er Cru AOC Vaillons – J. Moreau & Fils
Mineral, structured and with good ageing potential.
Gloire de Chablis AOC – J. Moreau & Fils

Bourgogne Chardonnay AOC – J. Moreau & Fils
Approachable, balanced and in a classic Burgundian style.
Chardonnay Le Sans Bois Vin de France – J. Moreau & Fils
Fresh, direct and vinified without oak.

These wines are particularly well suited as companions to fish, seafood and lighter dishes, expressing a clear and mineral-driven style of Chardonnay.

Positioning
