Maienfeld Pinot Noir Barrique Graubünden AOC

The Maienfeld Pinot Noir Barrique Graubünden AOC by Komminoth Weine is a handcrafted red wine from the heart of the Bündner Herrschaft. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, aged for 12 months in new and used oak barrels – elegant, fine-limbed and of impressive depth. A quintessential Swiss Pinot Noir with alpine terroir and a long finish.

Producer: Komminoth Weine, Maienfeld

Since the Komminoth family produced their first wine in Maienfeld in 1980, the passion for wines from the Bündner Herrschaft has never wavered. Year after year, the quality of the wines has been refined with great dedication. Today, Komminoth is considered one of the finest addresses in the Bündner Herrschaft. Around 4.6 hectares of vineyards are cultivated. Paul Komminoth vinifies each parcel separately, aiming for full-bodied, structured wines that can also age gracefully – through careful handwork, respect for nature and an intense connection to the vines.

The Bündner Herrschaft around Maienfeld, Jenins, Malans and Fläsch benefits from a unique microclimate: warm foehn winds, sun-drenched slopes and cool alpine nights create ideal conditions for aromatically ripe yet elegantly fresh red wines. The alpine terroir lends the wines a mineral depth that is unmatched in Switzerland.

How is the Maienfeld Pinot Noir Barrique vinified?
The grapes are macerated in stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months of maturation in new and used barrels. This combination produces a rounded, complex wine with a structured tannic framework.

100% Pinot Noir shapes this wine entirely. The variety is known for its fine aromas, medium tannin structure and excellent ageing potential – qualities that are particularly well expressed in the Maienfeld terroir.

At what temperature should this wine be served?

When will the Maienfeld Pinot Noir Barrique 2023 reach its peak?
TThe 2023 vintage is already showing balanced and approachable, yet still offers additional ageing potential. Within its ageing potential of 10 years and more, the wine will develop further depth, finer spice and an even more harmonious tannin structure.

What does the Maienfeld Pinot Noir Barrique pair best with?
Roasted or braised beef, lamb and game dishes, as well as aged blue cheese and Camembert, complement this wine particularly well.

What makes the Bündner Herrschaft a special wine-growing region?
The Bündner Herrschaft is considered one of the most prestigious wine regions in Switzerland. The alpine climate with foehn influence, calcareous moraine soils and hillside exposure produce Pinot Noir wines of unmistakable character and great depth.

The barrel imparts vanilla and spice notes and promotes a gentle oxidation that rounds the tannins. The combination of new and old casks ensures that the oak does not overpower the fruit.
