Pinot Grigio / Grauburgunder

Light, fresh and easy to love: pinot grigio is the most-drunk Italian white in the world – and as pinot gris it charms well beyond Italy.

One grape, two faces

Pinot grigio and pinot gris come from the same grape, a mutation of pinot noir. In the light Italian style it is zesty and neutral-fruited; as pinot gris it ripens into fuller, spicier wines with aromas of pear and almond.

From the Veneto to the Alps

The heart of pinot grigio beats in northern Italy, above all in the Veneto and Friuli, where it is made by the million. South Tyrol and Switzerland craft denser, alpine versions. Its style ranges from light and invigorating to full and complex.

Our Pinot Grigio recommendations

Pinot Grigio at the table

The light style suits antipasti, fish, risotto and white poultry. Fuller pinot gris also pairs with asparagus, mushroom dishes and savoury cheeses. A welcome all-rounder for light cooking.

Serving it right

Serve pinot grigio well chilled, at 8 to 10 °C, and fuller versions a touch warmer. Drink it young and fresh, when its carefree charm shines brightest.
