Pinot noir is demanding in the vineyard and bewitching in the glass. Thin-skinned and capricious, it asks for a cool climate and a careful hand – in return it offers silky tannins, delicate red-berry fruit and an aromatic depth that grows with the years.

From Burgundy to the Grisons Rhine valley

Its absolute benchmark is Burgundy, whose Côte d'Or yields legendary crus. In Switzerland, Blauburgunder is the leading red grape: in Valais and above all in the Bündner Herrschaft around Maienfeld, fine alpine pinots emerge. South Tyrol crafts elegant riserva bottlings too.
