Burgund
Crystalline Chablis, noble Côte de Beaune and silky pinot noir: Burgundy is for many the ultimate benchmark – the spiritual home of chardonnay and pinot noir.
The heart of France
In eastern France, Burgundy stretches from Chablis in the north to the south of the Côte d'Or. This is where terroir thinking was born: every parcel, every climat reveals a character of its own. Two grapes reign – chardonnay and pinot noir.
Chablis and the Côte de Beaune
In cool Chablis, chardonnay turns crystalline, mineral and taut. On the Côte de Beaune it ripens, noble and barrel-aged, into the greatest whites in the world. The red sites of the Côte de Nuits yield silky, complex pinot noirs.
Our Burgundy recommendations
- Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons – crystalline Chablis – mineral and taut.
- Bourgogne Chardonnay – the classic entry into white Burgundy.
- Gloire de Chablis – pure Chablis charm – fresh and fine.
Burgundy at the table
White Burgundies accompany fish, seafood, poultry in cream sauce and hard cheeses. Mineral Chablis is the classic partner for oysters. Red Burgundies pair with duck, game and mushroom dishes.
Serving it right
Serve white Burgundies at 10 to 12 °C, mature crus a touch warmer. Give great wines a little time in the glass – their complexity unfolds with air and rising temperature.
