Cusora Cabernet Sauvignon Sicily DOC
Cusora Cabernet Sauvignon
Sicily DOC
from Caruso e Minini represents a refined interpretation of this internationally renowned grape variety, shaped by the distinctive conditions of western Sicily. Its deep ruby colour reflects both concentration and optimal ripeness, achieved in vineyards located on limestone-rich hills rising up to 450 m above sea level east of Marsala. Warm days, cool nights and constant breezes encourage slow, even maturation and the development of nuanced aromas.
On the nose, the wine opens with a compact and focused aromatic profile. Ripe cassis and blackberry form the core, complemented by subtle spice, delicate toast notes and a hint of tobacco. The bouquet remains composed and harmonious, revealing the winery’s aim to produce wines of clarity and restraint rather than opulence.
The palate is fruit-driven yet balanced, with finely structured, velvety tannins that glide smoothly across the tongue. A well-judged acidity provides freshness and precision, ensuring that the wine retains its linear character throughout. The finish is pleasingly persistent, offering lingering impressions of dark berries and savoury spice.
Aged for eight months in French oak barrels, the Cusora benefits from gentle refinement without overshadowing the natural varietal expression. This measured use of oak mirrors the broader philosophy of Caruso e Minini: combining tradition and modern enology with craftsmanship and respect for the local terroir.
The winery itself is rooted in a longstanding collaboration between two families whose expertise in viticulture and wine commerce has been passed down through generations. Today, Giovanna and Rosanna Caruso continue this legacy, overseeing approximately 120 hectares of vineyards trained in the Guyot system. The Cusora Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a testament to their ability to harmonise a noble international variety with the distinctive landscapes of Sicily.
Food pairing: Grilled meats, aged cheeses, mushroom dishes and more.
Caruso e Minini
A success story of two families that has lasted for generations. The winemaking expertise of Sicilian Stefano Caruso coupled with the commercial knowledge of Mario Minini from northern Italy were responsible for the initial foundation. Tradition, competence and vision for the future came together. Today Stefano's daughters Giovanna and Rosanna are involved. The winery covers about 120 hectares of vineyards in the Guyot system. The vines climb up to 450 meters above sea level on calcareous hillsides east of Marsala and are then processed in a building that is over a century old. Thanks to the altitude and the distance from the sea, the grapes ripen particularly well. The result is varietal, characterful and modern wines from Sicilian classics such as Zibibbo and Nero d'Avola, but also from international celebrities like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
